“WHAT?! Why didn’t you ever tell me about that, Ria?! Did you even consider me your friend?!” you shouted, voice trembling as tears welled up in your eyes.
Ria’s eyes widened at your last words.
“Y/N… it’s not that I didn’t see you as a friend. You were more than that to me,” she said, her voice cracking. “But… I felt like I wasn’t good enough. Like I didn’t deserve someone like you as a friend.”
You stood frozen, tears streaming as she continued through her own sobs.
“They locked me in the washroom. Took my phone. Humiliated me over and over. I felt like disappearing, Y/N. I wanted to tell you—but I was scared. And then I broke our three-year friendship… just like that. I’m sorry.”
Her voice broke entirely, and she fell into your arms, both of you crying it out under the fading sunlight of the park.
“I don’t know what would’ve happened to me if Jungkook wasn’t there,” she whispered. “He never asked for details. He just stayed. Every time I needed someone, he was there.”
You calmed her down, the pain softening into comfort as old wounds began to heal.
That night, you both wandered the streets like old times—talking, laughing, eating ramyeon at a roadside stall like nothing ever changed.
Mid-slurp, you smirked and asked, “So… what about that Knight you used to talk about all the time?”
Ria’s eyes widened. “Oh my god, how do you remember everything?!”
You grinned. “Come on, spill.”
She groaned but gave in. “Fine. We’re over. He’s getting married soon anyway. It was nothing serious—we were just… friends.”
You scoffed. “Girl, that guy just lost a diamond.”
She chuckled through her sniffles, and you both burst out laughing, the night wrapping around you like a soft hug.
Time Skip
Laying in bed, you couldn’t stop thinking about Ria’s “Knight.” You remembered how her eyes lit up every time she talked about him—how her voice would rise a little when she mentioned his name. It wasn’t just a crush. She loved him.
Your thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock on the door. It was your dad.
“Dad! You don’t have to knock—just come in. Why are you still awake?” you asked, moving over so he could sit beside you on the bed.
“Just wanted to talk to the future guest of the house,” he said, one hand in his pocket, the other on the door.
You frowned. “Guest? Dad, I’ll never be a guest here. This is my home. You and Mom are my home.”
He chuckled as you hugged him from the side, both of you basking in the comfort of old memories and quiet laughter.
The peace was broken by his next words.
“Y/N… are you sure you want to marry him? Is he really the one?”
You blinked. “Why that question, Dad?”
He smiled and kissed your forehead.
“Because love is different from like, dear. You still have time to think. We haven’t announced anything officially yet.”
And with that, he left you in your thoughts again.
You sighed, trying to quiet the voice in your head, and finally drifted off to sleep.
Time Skip – Next Day
Jungkook and Ria arrived at your house. Your dad had gone to the company, and your mom was off at her kitty party.
You were munching on popcorn lazily when Jungkook stepped out to grab some stuff for the night, and Ria went into the kitchen to make hot chocolate.
That’s when you noticed her phone ringing on the table.
Caller ID: Knight
A mischievous grin crept on your face.
“RIA, YOUR KNIGHT IS CALLING!” you shouted playfully.
She ran out of the kitchen, but you were quicker. You managed to answer the call—just barely—before she snatched it out of your hand and ended it.
“Yah! At least answer him!” you teased, still trying to act normal… but the voice on the other side of the line—it was familiar. Way too familiar.
“It’s not important,” she said quickly, avoiding your gaze as she rushed back into the kitchen, visibly flustered.
Your mind was racing.
That voice…
You froze. Your eyes widened as realization struck you like a thunderbolt.
You bolted to your room and grabbed your phone, trying to reach your dad.
No answer.
So you texted him instead:
Dad, I’m coming to meet you. We need to discuss something important.
You quickly changed your outfit and shouted to Ria:
“Ria, Dad needs me at the office—I’ll try to come back early!”
And with that, you were out the door, heart pounding, thoughts spiraling.
